PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carriage driving device capable of arbitrarily changing the moving amount and the moving speed of a carriage at the time of moving the carriage on which a head performing the recording or reproducing of information is mounted. SOLUTION: The movement of a carriage 1 is controlled by changing a contact angle between a second guide rod 2a which guides the movement of the carriage 1 on which a head is mounted while being rotated by the driving force from the outside and a freely rotatable roller 3 which recieves the rotational movement of the second roller 2a by being brought into contanct with the rod 2a.
