PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winder for strip-like materials, wherein drawbacks such as damage of the strip-like material, nonuniform windings, etc., are suppressed, the wind up speed of the strip-like material is high and the winding time can be reduced. SOLUTION: The winder is composed of a winding out part composed of winding reels 1, 1a, 1b, 1c wound with strip-like materials 2, 2a, 2b, 2c and a winding out drive motors 3, 3a, 3b, 3c, a winding up part for winding up the strip-like materials 2, a dancer part composed of dancer levers 4, 4a, 4b, 4c for applying tensions to the strip-like materials 2 disposed on conveying ways, rollers 7 rotatable synchronously with conveying of the strip-like materials 2, and a length detector composed of a length measuring encoder 8 disposed on any one of the strip-like material conveying ways for detecting the rotation of the rollers 7. For forming a wound element 12, a pulse signal 14 on the output of the length measuring encoder 8 is used as a position feed back pulse for a winding up shaft servo motor 10 of a winding up shaft 9 to perform the winding up length control in a perfectly closed loop system.
