SUB VIDEO IMAGE CODING METHOD AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode closed caption data into a sub video image served by a rewritable recording medium. SOLUTION: This system includes a caption decoder 412 that decodes closed caption data from a television signal and a sub video image encoder 414 that encodes the closed caption data decoded by the caption decoder 412 into sub video data with a prescribed format and limited by a rewritable recording medium. Thus, a TV broadcast including the closed caption is recorded on a recording medium 420 and then the user can view the closed caption data even by a video reproduction system not provided with a separate closed caption decoder in the case of reproduction.
