PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which measures a scanning characteristic in a scanning optical system of a multibeam type. SOLUTION: In a measuring method for a scanning characteristic, the measuring face of a rotating polygon mirror 2 which scans a light beam is specified, a plurality of light beams B, B' are reflected by the measuring face, the respective positions of the plurality of light beams B, B' are measured in a plurality of measuring points on a scanning face, and the bend of a scanning line with reference to every light beam is measured. In the measuring method, a plurality of light sources 1, 1' are changed over one by one by a power-supply device 10, the light beams B, B' are radiated so as to be image-formed on a light receiving sensor 71 on the scanning face, and the scanning position of the light beams B, B' is measured.
