The invention relates to a device for word period regeneration during data transmission by means of pulse position modulation. Said device comprises a word period regeneration unit (5) which allows for retrieval of a word period from input pulse position modulated data. Said unit (5) comprises a shift register module which is clocked by a slot period and contains at least one shift register (16, 18, 20). The memory elements of the (each) shift register (16, 18, 20) whose number corresponds to the number of time windows within a word frame determined by the word period, are each connected to inputs of a logic exclusive-OR gate (17, 19, 20), the number of said inputs corresponding to the number of memory elements. In case the word frame corresponds to the limits of the (each) shift register (16, 18, 20), an output signal containing the frequency and phase of the word period safely appears on the output of the (each) exclusive-OR gate (17, 19, 20) when, according to the coding specification during pulse position modulation, a data pulse is present precisely in the (each) allocated shift register (16, 18, 20).
