Oil is passed through the oil storage vessel (3) to cool the circulating oil acting as the work fluid in the mechanism. The braking mechanism comprises a hydrodynamic retarder (1) with a rotor and stator interconnected via a work region, oil cooling device (2), oil storage vessel and a control device to applying pressure to the oil inside the storage vessel. The oil is finally circulated through the retarder and cooling device.
