In being fed to the cylinder/piston unit, the expanded fluid has a part of its thermic energy converted into mechanical work by a movement of the piston. In a group of three expansion components and three cylinder/piston units, with each cylinder/piston unit at least one of the expansion components is connected. The cylinder/piston units are so connected to one another and activated in a controlled manner with the fluid through the piston movement that always alternatingly the pistons of two cylinder/piston units move in counter stroke between two end positions, whereby one of the pistons provides mechanical work and the piston of the third cylinder/piston unit is inactive.
