A check strap(5) on one side is retained on the trim component(2), and on the other side between the column fastening component(41) and connecting elements(31,42) is held on a retaining pin(4). The strap is constructed so that it holds the trim component on the column after its release following deployment of the airbag according to a predetermined opening travel. The retaining pin has a mushroom headed point which passes through one end(51) of the strap and fits into a hole in the column.
