The invention is directed at a drill tool assembly (10) including a holder (12) having a shank (14) and a head portion (16) and having an axial centerline or rotational axis (18) on which said holder (12) is rotated in use. The head portion (16) includes a holder slot (30) at least over a centr al portion of the head, with the slot (30) being oriented perpendicularly to th e axial centerline of the holder (12). The holder slot (30) also includes a locating boss (24). A drill insert (35) having first and second cutting surfaces is selectively positioned within the holder slot (30). Both the position of the boss (24) and corresponding position of the drill insert (35 ) and locating slot (30) with respect to the holder (12) to mimimize offset errors in these relative positions.
