A method for joining hollow sections, e.g. metal pipe sections, into a framework uses a die and internal hydraulic pressure to form the sections. The joint position is defined on the outside of one section by a groove. The adjacent hollow section is then welded to the point, around the groove and the sections are placed in the die and hydraulic pressure is applied to rupture the groove and forge the joint shape into the die.
