Medium for photo-therapy in humans and animals comprises a suitable carrier with luminescence placed at or near the treatment site to be exposed to defined doses of ultra violet C light Medium containing a luminescent material, for photo-therapeutic applications in humans and animals, is located outside or close to the treatment site. The appropriate luminescence is worked into the material applied directly to the treatment site. It is then subjected to defined doses of ultra violet C light. Alternatively, a film or filter with a luminescent content is at the outlet of the ultra violet C lamp, and reversibly integrated. An additional luminescence can be an optical marker. The material can incorporate additional therapeutic substances, and it can be applied in or under the skin. The carrier material can be e.g. a solution, lotion, cream, ointment, spray emulsion or oil.
