The invention relates to a method for operating a power-assist braking system. Said power-assist braking system has a first operating mode in which it is not activated, a second operating mode in which pressure is built up in the wheel brakes after an emergency braking situation has been detected and a third operating mode which is provided for the transition from the second operating mode to the first. In the third operating mode, the wheel brake pressure (pRAD) is increased excessively in relation to the pressure of the tandem master cylinder (pTHZ) with external control means. The degree of overpressure is reduced monotonically over time, hereby guaranteeing an especially safe and user-friendly completion of the power-assist braking system operation.
