A water heating apparatus (10) includes a body (12) defining a water jacket chamber (14) around an open ended flue (62). An inlet (16) leads into the water jacket chamber and an outlet (18) leads from the water jacket chamber at a position spaced from the inlet (16). At least the outlet (18) is connected to the water jacket chamber (14) by a length of pipe (40), at least part of which is positioned inside the flue (62). A burner (48) is positioned in register with a lower end of the flue (62) to heat water in the chamber (14). The body (12) is in two parts (20,22) and incorporates a pressure relief valve (54).
