The suction appliance has a dirt chamber (4) for the reception of dirt or similar separated out at its top side is bordered by the filter unit (3). An inlet opening (6) opens out in the dirt chamber for the suction material. A suction chamber (8) arranged above the filter unit (3) and separated from the dirt chamber and a suction set in the form of a blower by which the clean air is removed is arranged in the flow direction behind the suction chamber. The filter unit (3) is arranged in two filter parts (10,11) lying closed together in plan view, displaced in the height direction (12). The higher lying filter part (10) faces the inlet opening (6) and the lower filter part (11) faces the blower (9). So that the inlet opening (6) is arranged in the region of the bottom side of the higher filter part and the removal of the clean air from the suction chamber (4), results from the suction chamber region (13) facing the lower filter part.
