Cutting of fibrous material

A method of cutting fibrous material e.g. velvet having a semi-rigid base and a fibrous pile in which the fibres in the immediate vicinity of the cut are removed prior to the cut being made. The fibres are removed by the application of heat at a temperature hot enough to vaporise the fibres. The product may be used in film cartridges.
