The tools (36) of the various machining heads (33) are housed on a common drum (57), which is remote from the heads (33) and rotated to select a given row of tools (36). At each head (33), there is provided an intermediate station (62) having a container (63) housing a row of tools (36); and a shuttle (82) provides for sequentially transferring the tools (36) between the drum (57) and the intermediate stations (62). Each container (63) is rotated 90 DEG between a position cooperating with the shuttle (82) and a position cooperating with a device (43) for exchanging the tools (36) between the head (33) and the container (63).
