Heading H1S A wire wound resistor 4 is insulated by comminuted dry inorganic solid insulating material 6 mixed with small grains, at least the surface layers of which consist of a metal which, according to its position in the electrochemical series, is less noble than the material of the resistance element. The small grains may be of magnesium, cadmium or zinc or of another material (e.g. iron) coated with one of these metals. The resistor element may be of nickel alloy wire wound on a glass cord and may be sealed by silicone resin 7. The comminuted insulating material may be quartz sand or aluminium oxide of average grain size 5-500 microns with the admixed small grains being of 2-50 microns. The ceramic casing may be provided with mounting slots (11, Fig. 2, not shown) and may have an extra bore to accommodate a return conductor (1).</p> |
