PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a driving mechanism small in size, light in weight and inexpensive, and concurrently, dispense with a machine room at the upper part of a hoistway. SOLUTION: A suspended wire 5 is hanged over a suspended sheave 4 mounted to the apex 9 of a hoistway, a car 6 is connected with one end of the suspended wire 5, and concurrently, one end of a suspended bar 12 supported by a counterweight 7 so as to be freely rocked, is connected with the other end of the suspended wire 5. In addition, a driving sheave 11 is mounted to a driving motor 10 mounted to the apex 9 of the hoistway, and concurrently, a driving wire 17 mounted to the apex 9 of the hoistway at both its ends, is hanged over to a suspension sheave 16 mounted to the upper part of the car 6, a suspension sheave 15 mounted to the apex 9 of the hoistway, and a suspension sheave 14 mounted to the driving sheave 11 and the other end of the suspended bar 12.
