Method and apparatus for cutting belts with reinforcing layers

During the cutting action the belt material (38) is set between two clamping jaws and is seized on each side by the cutting edges (36,37) of the blade (17) which form an acute angle between them and are straight or curved convex towards the belt. The blade is passed through the belt material with a clearly vertical play whereby the blade centres automatically relative to the reinforcement insert enclosed in the belt. The two cutting edges of the blade can be symmetrical relative to each other to form together a V- shaped cutting notch.
