PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject detecting liquid detecting a dental decay part and simultaneously having a sterilizing and bacteriostatic effect on a causative of a pulp disease existing in the dental decay part by including water, a water- miscible solvent, a specific coloring matter and a specific compound as an antimicrobial agent. SOLUTION: This detecting liquid contains (A) water and/or a water-miscible solvent, (B) a coloring matter capable of improving the discriminability of a dental decay part by dyeing the part (e.g. basic fuchsin, etc.), (C) an antimicrobial agent being at least one kind of a polymerizable antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of compounds having formula I [R1 is H or the like; R2 is an alkylene; X is O or the like; Y is a group of formula II (Z is a halogen) or the like], formula III [R5 is H or the like; R6 is an alkylene; Y' is a group of formula IV (R8 is CH3 or the like) or the like], formula V (R9 is H or the like; R10 is an alkylene) or formula VI (R11 is H or the like; R12 and R13 are each an alkylene; R14 is an alkyl; A is O or the like; B1 and B2 are each CO or the like) and a (meth)acryloyl group or a styryl group and a quaternary ammonium base or a pyridimium base in a molecule.
