PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 3-hydroxy butyric acid/3-hydroxy propionic acid copolymer of uniform composition and stable properties. SOLUTION: In this method, Alcaligenes latus is cultured in a medium which contains 3-hydroxy propionic acid or its salt and a carbon source transformable into 3-hydroxy butyryl COA in a cell of Alcaligenes latus, e.g. saccharose, while keeping the medium at a pH of 6.5 to 7.5.
