PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently judge the quality of a bonded part by arranging metal sheets which are superimposed using an upsetting machine between a punch and a die, forming a bulged part by drawing the thin metal sheet into the die, a bulkhead part is expanded by the bottom of the bulged part to be expanded and judging the quality in the bonded part based on the displacement of the bulkhead part. SOLUTION: The die 6 and punch 8 are main components of the upsetting device. The punch 8 is advanced and retreated at a prescribed stroke and the die 6 is formed with an anvil 6' and die hole. By drawing the thin metal sheets 1, 2 into the die hole by advancing the punch 8, the bulged part is formed and, by further advancing the punch 8, the bottom of the bulged part is upset between the punch 8 and the anvil 6', expanded in the direction orthogonal to the axial line of the punch 8 and the bulkhead part 7 is pushed and spreaded. Based on the displacement of the bulkhead part 7, the quality of the bonded part 5 is judged. The displacement of the bulkhead part 7 is detected with a displacement sensor 10. The displacement sensor 10 is arranged on the extension line in the spreading direction of the bulkhead parts 7.
