PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer, a control method therefor and an information processing device capable of selecting adequate printing operation corresponding to a cut sheet paper or a continuous paper by a carriage return command by a method which is not a burden to a user. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a printer 1 having a carriage return executing section 31 that executes carriage return by controlling a paper feeding control section 25 along an instruction from a command executing section 22. The carriage return executing section 31 includes a continuous paper mode 32 wherein a printing paper set in a paper passage 19 is not discharged when a carriage return command is interpreted by a carriage return command interpreting section 38 and the carriage return is executed and a cut sheet paper mode 33 wherein the paper is discharged, then a mode interpreting section 39 interprets a control commandϕ2 from a host computer 50 and selects one of the modes. As a result, whether either of a continuous paper 60 or a cut sheet paper 62 is to be used is automatically judged and the continuous paper mode 32 or cut sheet paper mode 33 suitable for the paper is set so that the printing suitable for each of the papers can be surely performed, then the burden to a user can be reduced.
