PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dissolve defectiveness of idling control or the like by driving motor- driven opening/closing mechanism to open/close a throttle valve in case of detecting an index showing the state of an abnormal current flowing to the motor-driven opening/closing mechanism and erasing the index upon the change of output of an opening detector to make the motor-driven opening/closing mechanism ready to work normally. SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine provided with motor-driven opening/closing mechanism for directly controlling opening/closing of a throttle valve 2 fitted to an intake system 1, on the basis of at least engine rotational speed in an idling state and an opening detector for detecting the opening of the throttle valve 2, the presence of an index showing the state of an abnormal current flowing to the motor-driven opening/closing mechanism is detected, and after detecting this index and in the case of the internal combustion engine being at the starting time, a current is applied to the motor-driven opening/ closing mechanism to open/close the throttle valve 2. When the output of the opening detector changes, the index is erased to make the motor-driven opening/ closing mechanism ready to work normally.
