PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel ester that has excellent pest-controlling activity and is useful as an active ingredient for a pest-controlling agent, for example, an insecticide, an acaricide, a moth-proofing agent for clothes. SOLUTION: This is an ester represented by formula I (R is ethyl, n-propyl, allyl), typically 5-ethyl-2-furfuryl (1RS)-cis-3-(Z-2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1- propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate. The compound of formula I is prepared, for example, by allowing an alcohol of formula II (for example, 5-ethyl-2-furfuryl alcohol) to react with a carboxylic acid of formula III or its reactive derivative [for example, (1RS)-cis-3-(Z-2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1- propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxyl chloride], preferably in an inert solvent in the presence of a proper condensation agent and a base.
