PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic raw material comprising a vinylic polymer having a specific structure, having excellent stability for adding to cosmetics, capable of imparting good touch and surface protectability to cosmetics, and useful as a raw material for skin cosmetics, hair cosmetics, etc. SOLUTION: This cosmetic raw material comprises a vinylic polymer which has carbosiloxanedendrimer structures in side chains and which is obtained by polymerizing 0-99.9 pts.wt. of a vinylic monomer, preferably methyl methacrylate, and 100-0.1 pts.wt. of a carbosiloxane dendrimer of formula I [Y is a radical-polymerizable organic group; R1 is a 1-10C alkyl or the like; X1 is a silylalkyl, when (i) is 1; R2 is a 2-10C alkylene; R3 is a 1-10C alkyl; Xi+1 is H, a 1-10C alkyl or the like; (i) is 1-10 in the group of the silylalkyl; (ai) is 0-3] (for example, a compound of formula III) by a radical polymerization method, e.g. a solution polymerization method.
