PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extra thin steel sheet for can, hardly causing deterioration in deformability due to inclusions and precipitates, hardly causing deterioration in surface characteristic due to cluster-like inclusions, and extremely excellent in workability. SOLUTION: The steel is an extra low carbon steel having a composition which contains, by weight, 0.015-0.10% Ti, <=0.01% Al, <=0.02% N, and 0.0005-0.1%, in total, of either or both of Ca and REM and in which respective contents of S and either or both of Ca and REM satisfy the relation of S-5×((32/40)Ca+(32/140)REM)<=0.0014 wt.% and the balance is composed of Fe with inevitable impurities. Further, oxide inclusions of 1 to 50μm grain size contain Ti oxide and either or both of CaO and REM oxide, and sheet thickness is >0.2 to 0.5 mm.
