PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-barrier resin compsn. which is capable of excluding such an application of an anchoring agent onto a substrate as to be usually needed and which takes the place of PVDC. SOLUTION: This resin compsn. for film coating comprises a water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer (A) contg. 3-18 mole % of anα-olefin unit having the number of carbons of 4 or less, and an aq. anchoring agent (B) in a blend ratio of (A)/(B) = 99/1 to 80/20. The water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer (A) has a degree of saponification of 90-99.99 mole %. In addition, the water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer (A) is the one contg. sodium acetate of 0.01-2 wt.%, and contains a silyl group-contg. unit of 5 mole % or less.
