PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of shock when a required load changes, and maintain excellent low temperature combustion. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine selectively conducts first combustion wherein an ECG gas amount within a combustion chamber is more than the ECG gas amount at a peak of generation amount of soot, and wherein soot is hardly generated, namely low temperature combustion, and second combustion wherein the ECG gas amount within a combustion chamber is less than the ECG gas amount at the peak of the generation amount of soot. When a required load changes, injection amount is gradually changed, in this case, a change speed of the injection amount at the first combustion is made to be slower than that at the second combustion.
