PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the denseness of a fluorescent film which is formed using a red luminous fluorescent substance for cathode-ray tubes, and to increase the brightness of the fluorescent film formed by a red luminous fluorescent substance. SOLUTION: A red luminous fluorescent substance for cathode-ray tubes is prepared by attaching an alkali earth metal compound such as an oxide, hydroxide, etc., of Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba on the surface of a particle of a red luminous fluorescent substance based on yttrium trisulfide. A cathode-ray tube is equipped with a fluorescent film formed using such red luminous fluorescent substance for cathode-ray tubes.
