摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To moderate the impact force in the collision of a rack shaft to a stopper by colliding both end surfaces of the rack shaft to both stoppers on a gear box side to regulate the rack stroke. SOLUTION: A rack shaft 3 has a rack closer to one end, and housed in the rack shaft housing part 2a of a gear box 2 in such a manner as to be laterally slidable. When the rack shaft 3 receives the manual input by steering of a steering wheel, the steering auxiliary force outputted by an electric motor 5 and further the inertial force of the electric motor 5 and moves to the terminal end within the rack shaft housing part 2a, an impact absorbing member 6 buried in the end surface of the rack shaft 3 is collided to the inner wall surface of either one of lateral caps 7 to contract the dimension. According to this, the impact force by the collision of the end surface of the rack shaft 3 with the end surface of the rack shaft housing part 2a of the gear box 2 can be mitigated.
