PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the direction simply and surely when an open shield machine is tilted during forward movement, and to improve not only workability but also the accuracy of posture control. SOLUTION: In the open shield tunneling method, a portal type frame 11c, to which pulling-up members such as jacks 12 are installed, is built so as to cross the upper section of the open shield machine 1 tilted in the excavating direction, the open shield machine 1 is hung up by a hanger 14 mounted on the jacks 12 while using a ground 16 as reaction and returned to a normal position, and an opening in the lower section of the open shield machine 1 is filled with soil and sand or a grout material 17.
