PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable surely diagnosing the presence or absence of a trouble in a driving force transmitting path from a shedding motor to a heddle frame. SOLUTION: This shedding device of a loom is provided as follows: A shed- controlling device 21 performs a feed-back control of a shed-driving motor 20 based on a loom rotary angle information obtained from a rotary encoder 24 and a height position information obtained from a height position detecting device 25. A displacement-calculating circuit 27 of a judging device for the presence or absence of an abnormality 26, grasps an actual shedding motion curve E2 of the heddle frame 11 based on the above height position information and loom rotary angle information. Also, the displacement-calculation circuit 27 grasps an actual shedding motion curve E3 associated with the shed-driving motor 20 based on a rotary position information obtained from another rotary encoder 202 and the loom rotary angle information. A comparing circuit 28 judges the degree of a discrepancy between the shedding motion curves E2 and E3.
