PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce subsidence of a flat slab foundation as a whole by forming a downwardly protruding bottom face in a plurality of capitals provided in a flat slab. SOLUTION: Columnar capitals 18 are protruded underneath a flat slab 16 to constitute a flat slab foundation 10 and formed right under columns 20 of a building 12, and the bottoms thereof are formed to have a protruding face such as a spherical face. Since a load transmitting from respective points of the faces 22 to the ground 14 acts on other directions than the perpendicular direction, except one point of the faces 22, it is composed of a resultant of the horizontal component and the vertical component, except the one point. The ground 14 transfers and deforms from the central part of the foundation 10 to the peripheral parts and the vertical load causes a subsidence of the foundation 10 as a whole, but the horizontal load restricts it. In this way, the subsidence can be reduced and since the horizontal load increases a mean principal stress of the ground and also increases a deformation coefficient, the entire subsidence of the foundation can be reduced and the shear fracture strength of the ground is increased to reinforce the ground.
