PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record record images without a density irregularity with a small amount of power and at high speed by arranging a velocity control means for controlling a relative velocity of a thermal head and a recording medium in accordance with information having a correlation to an amount of stored heat of the thermal head detected by a detecting means. SOLUTION: A signal-processing part 15 includes an image memory 13 for storing digital image signals input from an input terminal 14 as gradation data, a halftone control part 11 for generating conduction signals on the basis of various data read from a memory 16 or the like, a system control part 12 for controlling the entire printer, etc. The system control part 12 controls a motor of a recording medium-transferring mechanism to send a recording medium at an actual line velocity. The halftone control part 11 generates energization signals of an actual energization time width conforming to a gradation level of each pixel of line data stored in a line memory. The energization signal drives a thermal head 10, whereby an n-th line of a record image is recorded in the recording medium.
