PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably increase the critical upsetting ratio of steel at the time of subjecting austenitic heat resistant steel to cold working. SOLUTION: By heating austenitic heat resistant steel essentially consisting of Ni and Cr to the temp. above the transformation point, the crystal structure in which solute atoms are got over from the lattices of solvent atoms is obtd., thereafter, by executing rapid cooling, its temp. is transferred to a room temp. while the crystal structure in the heated state is retained, and, after that, the austenitic heat resistant steel cooled as the crystal structure in the heated state is retained is subjected to cold working.
