PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new physiologically active substances useful as a carcinostatic agent, etc., having strong proliferation inhibiting activity against cancerous cells, etc. by culturing a bacterium belonging to the genus strong Streptomyces, capable of producing new physiologically active substances NA33, 414A and NA33, 414B. SOLUTION: New physiologically active substances NA33, 414A and NA33, 414B (salt) have the following physical and chemical properties: apparatus: yellow powder; molecular weight: 494; molecular formula: C29H38N2O5S; solubility: soluble in methanol, pyridine and chloroform and slightly soluble in hexane and water; Rf value by silica gel thin layer chromatography: 0.1 by a developing solvent of chloroform:methanol (10:1); and color reaction: vanillin sulfate and iodine positive and ninhydrin, Rydon Smith and phosphomolybdic acid negative or neutral. The above-mentioned properties are common to NA33, 414A and NA33, 414B. Besides, λmax (MeOH) of ultraviolet absorption spectrum is 262 and 353 nm in NA33, 414A and 275, 360 and 380 (sh)nm in NA33, 414B. The physiologically active substances NA33, 414A and NA33, 414B have strong proliferation inhibiting activity against cancerous cells and are useful as a carcinostatic agent, etc. |
