PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a preparation for external use for skin that can retain and form transparency of skin and has both of the skin-whitening function and the skin-darkening or dulling prevention by using an extract of Cola de caballo (Equisetum gigantuem) and a keratin-releasing agent. SOLUTION: The objective preparation for external use for skin includes (A) an extract of Cola de caballo (Equisetum gigantuem) and (B) a keratin- releasing agent. In a preferred embodiment the component B is anα-amino acid derivative represented by the formula (R1 to R3 are H, a lower alkyl or the like), a quaternary ammonium compound and preferably N,N,N,N- trimethylglycine. The amount of the component A is 0.01-5.0 wt.% based on the whole of the external preparation and the component B is 0.05-10.0 wt.%. This external preparation can be combined with surfactant, moisturizer, higher alcohol, sequestering agent and the like and can be used in the preparation of aqueous solution, solvent solution, emulsion and dust or powder.
