PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain in high yield a pyrrole-based compound useful as a cyano coupler used in silver halide color photographic photosensitive materials by using a specific imidic acid halide compound without any problem including offensive odor and burden on the environment. SOLUTION: This pyrrole-based compound of formula III is obtained by making an electrophilic olefin compound of formula II (R1 is H or a substituent; R2 is cyano, an acyl, alkoxycarbonyl or the like) act on an imidic acid halide compound of formula I (R3 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or the like; R4 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, heterocyclic ring or the like; X is Cl or Br). Furthermore, the other objective compound of formula I is prepared by acting a halogenting agent on an amide-based compound of formula IV. After synthesizing the compound of formula I, it can be reacted with the compound of formula II without the need of being isolated.
