PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for olefin polymerization which gives a polymer excellent in polymerization activity and has a wide range of molecular weight distribution, and a method for olefin polymerization by use of said catalyst. SOLUTION: A catalyst for olefin polymerization comprises (A) a titanium catalyst component containing Mg, Ti and a halogen as an essential component, (B) a transition metal compound represented as the following formula and (C) an organic metallic compound, organic aluminum oxy compound or an ionized ionic compound. In the formula, M is a transition metal of the 3-11 group of the Periodic Table; m is 1-6; R1 is a hydrocarbon and the like; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are H, a halogen, a hydrocarbon group and the like; R6 is a halogen, hydrocarbon group and the like; n is a number fulfilling a valence number of M; and X is a halogen, a hydrocarbon and the like.
