An isolated sequence of a gene expressing a hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) having a sequence as shown in SEQ. ID NO: 1 (defined in the specification) and obtained from Pseudomonas Fluorescens is claimed. A chimeric gene for genetic transformation of plants comprising in the transcription sense: a) at least one promoter regulation sequence from a gene expressed naturally in plants; b) a heterologous coding sequence and c) at least one polyadenylation sequence characterized in that the coding sequence is a sequence of a gene which expresses a hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) is claimed. A vector and a plant containing the chimeric gene as defined above are claimed.
