Protective Helicobacter antigens and vaccine compositions containing them

An antigenic preparation is claimed for use in the treatment or prevention of Helicobacter infection comprising an at least partially purified preparation of at least one Helicobacter antigen consisting of: a) an antigen with a molecular weight of 13kDa and corresponding to the sequence of clone C3.5 (SEQ. ID NO: 2); b) an antigen with a molecular weight of 36kDa and corresponding to the sequence of clone E2.5 (SEQ. ID NO: 4); c) an antigen with a molecular weight of 50kDa and corresponding to the sequence of clone G3.8 (SEQ. ID NO: 6); d) an antigen with a molecular weight of 29kDa and corresponding the sequence of clone H5.1(SEQ. ID NO: 8) or e) immunogenic fragments of any of the above antigens which are capable of eliciting a specific protective immune response in a mammalian host. The composition is preferably in vaccine form. Also claimed are the isolated Helicobacter antigen as defined above, a nucleic acid molecule encoding it, antibody specific for the above antigen and a vector containing the above antigen.
