A process for the recycling and production of plastics and plastic materials from new, reprocessed or old plastics or from graded and ungraded plastic waste, comprising (a) mixing a carrier material (A) consisting of one or more different types of plastic or newly made or waste plastic material with a material (X) of any or unknown composition and an additive (Z) consisting of fatty acids, fatty acid-containing natural or synthetic mixtures, derivatives which liberate fatty acid under the process conditions, or fatty alcohols, in amounts such that the content of plastic in (A) and (X) together (based on vol.) is at least enough to enable the incorporation of non-plastic components to give a homogeneous or partly homogeneous mixture, (b) passing this mixture through a feeder system under continued mechanical mixing, kneading or compression and subjecting it to multi-stage thermal treatment at temperatures of 60-400 deg C, and (c) extruding the mixture through a die for further treatment or moulding. Also claimed is plastic material obtained by this process and plastic products made therefrom. |
