Inhibition of colon cancer in mammals (especially humans) involves administration of a 2-phenyl-3-aroyl-benzothiophene derivative of formula (I) or its salt or solvate. R1, R3 = H, Me, 2-7C alkanoyl or optionally substituted benzoyl; R2 = pyrrolidino, hexamethylene imino or piperidino.
