摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of light separation and synthesis and to improve color purity and light utilization factor by rotating the polarization direction of light on the light incident side and the light emitting side of a light control part. SOLUTION: Red light is reflected in a right-angle direction by a dichroic mirror 3 and reflected by a total reflection mirror 7, and then it is transmitted through a 1/2 wavelength plate 5r and made incident on a liquid crystal board 6r; irradiating light transmitted through the mirror 3 is made incident on a green reflection dichroic mirror 4, reflected thereby and transmitted through a 1/2 wavelength plate 5g and made incident on a liquid crystal board 6g; and light transmitted through the mirror 4 is blue light, which is transmitted through a 1/2 wavelength plate 5b and made incident on a liquid crystal board 6b, respectively. As for the incident light, p-polarized light made incident on a dichroic mirror for separating light is made the polarized light inclined by 45 deg. by the 1/2 wavelength plates 5r, 5g and 5b, and made incident on the liquid crystal boards 6r, 6g and 6b. Then, the polarized light out of video light transmitted through the liquid crystal boards is rotated by 45 deg. again by the 1/2 wavelength plates 5r, 5g and 5b and becomes the p-polarized light, and then it is made incident on dichroic mirrors 8 and 9 so as to be synthesized.
