Composition for dyeing keratinic fibres, especially the hair, comprising a direct cationic dye and a quaternary ammonium salt. Composition for dyeing keratinic fibres, especially human hair, comprising, in a suitable medium: (i) at least one cationic direct dye selected from compounds (I), (II), (III), (III') or (IV); and (ii) at least one quaternary ammonium salt selected from (V), (VI) and (VII) D = N or CH R<1> and R<2> (same or different) = H; 1-4C alkyl (optionally substituted by -CN, -OH or -NH2) or which may form with a C atom of the benzene ring an optionally O- or N-containing heterocycle (optionally substituted by one or more 1-4 C alkyl groups); or 4'-aminophenyl radical R<3> and R'<3> (same or different) = H , halo (Cl, Br, I, F), CN, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy or acetyloxy X<-> = an anion, especially chloride, methyl sulfate or acetate A = specific heterocyclic group; R<6> = H or 1-4 C alkyl R<7> = H, alkyl (optionally substituted by -CN or amino group) or 4'-aminophenyl, or R<7> together with R<6> may form an optionally O and/or N-containing heterocycle (optionally substituted by a 1-4 C alkyl) R<8> and R<9> (same or different) = H, halo (Br, Cl, I or F), 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy or -CN X<-> = an anion, especially chloride, methyl sulfate or acetate B = specific heterocyclic group; R<13> = H, 1-4 C alkoxy, halo (Br, Cl, I, F) or amino R<14> = H or 1-4 C alkyl or R<14> together with a C atom of the benzene ring may form an optionally O-containing heterocycle which is optionally substituted by one or more 1-4 C alkyl groups R<15> = H or halo (Br, Cl, I, F) R<16> and R<17> (same or different) = H or 1-4 C alkyl D1 and D2 (same or different) = N or CH m = 0 or 1 with the proviso that if R<13> = an optionally substituted amino group then D1 and D2 are both -CH and m = 0 X = an anion, especially chloride, methyl sulfate or acetate E = specific heterocyclic group; G = specific heterocyclic group; R<33> to R<36> (same or different) = 1-30 C aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched, or an alkoxy, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, polyoxyalkylene, alkylamido, alkylamidoalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aromatic, aryl or alkylaryl group with 12-30 C provided that at least one of R<33>, R<34>, R<35> and R<36> = a radical with 8-30 C X<-> = an anion selected from halides, phosphates, acetates, lactates and alkyl sulfates R<37> = alkenyl and/or alkyl group with 13-31C derived from tallow fatty acids (ii)3 quaternary diammonium salts of formula (VII) R<38> = a 16-30C aliphatic radical R<39>, R<40>, R<41>, R<42>, and R<43> = H or 1-4C alkyl X<-> = an anion selected from halides, acetates, phosphates and sulfates.
