PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress line flicker, while preventing deterioration in vertical resolution. SOLUTION: When a video signal with 525 scanning lines of the interlace system in converted into a video signal with 525 scanning lines of progressive system while keeping the image size the same, the video signal of an odd number field is offset by 0.5 H from the line after the conversion (H is a horizontal scanning line interval of a received video signal). Thus, pixel data for each line Oi after the conversion is produced from two lines Ii, Ii+1 before the conversion. As a result, the pixel color of a line O4 at a border of white and black pixel becomes gray. In an even numbered field, no offset is provided and pixel data of each line Ii of a field before the conversion are used for pixel data of each line Oi of the field after the conversion as they are. Pixels of a line of white and black border are white or gray pixels and conspicuous line flickers are suppressed, in comparison with the white and black pixels. |
