PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a reset period which is the cause of flicker and makes a scanning period redundant and to realize driving by a bipolar pulse having the same polarity order by making scanning side voltage, signal side voltage, rise (fall) start voltage and rise (fall) completion voltage satisfy specified conditions. SOLUTION: The rise start voltage +Vme is the maximum voltage value that can hold a dark state, the fall start voltage -Vme is the minimum voltage value that can hold a bright state, the rise completion voltage +Vsw is the minimum voltage value to transit the dark state to the bright state, and the fall completion voltage -Vse is the maximum voltage value to transit the bright state to the dark state. The scanning side voltage applied to n-th and (n+1)th scanning electrodes during a selection period is the two-phase bipolar pulse whose waveheight values are±Vr, and is set to satisfy|Vr|>=|Vsw|. The signal side voltage to display a pixel on a scanning electrode line to be bright and dark is the two-phase unipolar pulse whose waveheight values are Vc and Ov and is set to satisfy|Vr|-|Vc|<=|Vme|and|Vc|<=|Vme|.
