PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner control method and its device which can efficiently and quickly perform picture input processing without using a memory of a large capacity. SOLUTION: Picture data read by a scanner 2 are stored in any of plural storage devices 16-1 to 16-N including different kinds of storage devices. When a storage capacity of one of the storage devices becomes short of a remaining capacity, a storage device control device 14 is made to switch a storage party of the picture data to other storage device.
