PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce correction impossible probability at the time of a burst error occurrence by improving error detecting ability. SOLUTION: An error correcting method decoding a code double-encoded by first and second error detecting/correcting codes decodes a first code word by the first error detecting/correcting code to output its decoded state (step 101). At the time of decoding a second code word by the second error detecting/ correcting code, the second code word is classified to N-pieces of groups according to the decoded state of the first code word constituting the second code word (step 102). A second decoding step decodes the classified second code word based on the decoded state of the first code word constituting the second code word, the decoding state of the first code word decoded in a prescribed period required for obtaining the second code word and a flag set by a system and outputs its decoded state. Thus, the second code word is decoded based on the decoded state of all the continuous first code word and various kinds of reproduction state (step 103).
